Today was devoted to discovering the wonderful city of Prague.
Unfortunately the day dawned wet & rainy. The show must go on though, so we met our local expert guide Lucie at our hotel & ventured out, traveling up to the top of 'Castle Hill' by tram.
Amongst the sites we saw were the Strahov Monastery with it's famous library...
...the hilltop vineyards & Czech parliament buildings...
...the honor guard at the entrance to the Castle proper...
...& St. Vitus' Cathedral. Unfortunately we couldn't enter the cathedral as it was Sunday morning, but our tickets will allow everyone to return later today or tomorrow.
Perhaps the most iconic sight of Prague is Charles Bridge, so we took our time crossing, stopping to see its many statues & even making a quick prayer.
Continuing along 'the Royal Mile' we stopped in Old Town Square & saw the famous astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall, with the spectacular Tyn Church in the background.
And finally Lucie included a short walk through the former Jewish neighborhood, Josefov, before returning to Old Town Square where our tour ended.
After free time for lunch & shopping some of the group gathered to visit the Museum of Communism together, learning about the way people lived under that regime in Czechoslovakia.
Finally we ended the day with an organ recital in St. Salvator Church, a fitting finale to a wet but good day.
