Vienna in the Rain (Thursday 11th September)

Unfortunately the great weather we've had so far couldn't last, & today dawned grey & wet.
So we donned coats, warmer clothing, hats & umbrellas as we departed our hotel to ride the city's U-Bahn (subway) into the city center.
Our guide this morning was Suzie, who met us in the rain at the Maria Theresa statue, honoring the only female Habsburg ruler & indeed only female leader of Austria to date - who combined ruling one of the world's greatest empire's with having 15 children!

Whenever possible we sheltered from the rain whilst seeing the city's sights as best we could.
As well as the Hofburg, the royal palace, we also saw the World War II/Holocaust Memorial..

...the Augustinian Church, the Albertina, the Opera House, & St. Stephan's Cathedral...

After free time for lunch we regrouped for a visit inside the Hofburg to visit the Royal Silver & Porcelain Collection, the Sisi Museum, & the Imperial Apartments.

We ended our afternoon with a short walk through the Volksgarten, photo-stop outside the Neo-Classical Parliament, & a ride on the city's trams around the 1860s Ringstrasse.

Back at our hotel the weather was soon forgotten!
