The Road to Prague, via Cesky Sternberg (Saturday 13th September)

From Vienna our journey to Prague today wound north into the Czech Republic, through the nation's south-eastern wine-growing region & into Bohemia.
Thankfully the pouring rain that we left Vienna in had abated by the time we stopped to visited Cesky Sternberg, a dramatically-situated historic castle.

After climbing up to the ramparts there was time for lunch before our castle guide gathered us to enter the main castle.

Inside the castle's rooms were decorated in a variety of styles, adapted over the centuries to provide more comfort to the inhabitants & keep up with changing fashions.

Our young guide explained some of the history of the Sternbergs, including how they lost ownership of the castle during communism but regained it in 1992.

After arriving in Prague & checking-in to the excellent Hotel Hoffmeister we rode a city tram into the center of the Old Town to dinner, at the historic & popular 'U Vejvodu' pub.
A fun evening was had by all, with plenty of Czech beer & some hearty food.

We strolled back to our hotel though the Old Town's winding streets & across Charles Bridge, wonderfully atmospheric in the moonlight & with lots of people walking & enjoying the nighttime views.
